Registering on Gate.io starts with your country, not your email. Both the web and the app forms ask for your Country/Region of Residence, and for a tick in the User Agreement box, before they ask for an email address or phone number, a verification code and a password. Gate then requires identity verification before you can deposit or withdraw. What you need to register on Gate.io
- An email address or a phone number that has not already been used for a Gate account: each one can register only one account.
- A country of residence that Gate accepts, and a tick in the User Agreement and Privacy Policy box. Gate's restricted-locations list is in the section below.
- Access to that email or phone, because Gate sends a verification code to it (the app guide says a code is valid for 15 minutes).
- A password. Gate recommends letters, numbers and symbols.

Gate.io registration, step by step
1. Reach the form
Our link opens Gate's own sign-up page, which starts with the country selector (we saw this on 17 October 2026). If you land on Gate's home page instead, choose Sign Up, which Gate's help calls the Register button: it sits in the top-right corner of the website and the upper-left corner of the app.
2. Pick your country and accept the terms
Select your Country/Region of Residence, tick the box to accept the User Agreement and Privacy Policy, and press the button that starts account creation. On the page our link opened, the box was already ticked. Gate says the country you give should be accurate, so check the one it shows.
3. Enter an email address or phone number
Choose email or phone number as your registration method, enter it and press Next.
4. Enter the verification code
Gate sends a code to that email address or phone. Enter it and press Next. If it has not arrived, check the spam folder and the number, then press Resend; the app guide says a code is valid for 15 minutes.
5. Set the login password
Set the password and press Confirm. Gate recommends a strong password with letters, numbers and symbols.
6. Turn on two-factor authentication
Gate recommends enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) right after your first login.
App or website?
Gate publishes a web guide (dated 26 January 2026) and an app guide (2 September 2021) with the same five steps. Only the button differs: Register at the top right of the website, Sign up at the upper left of the app.

Gate.io identity verification (KYC)
Gate's FAQ says you must complete identity verification before making deposits or withdrawals, and that once verified you can deposit digital assets, withdraw, trade fiat currencies and join projects such as Launchpool. Users under 18 are not eligible.
What you need
A valid identity document in your own name: a passport, ID card or driver's license. Gate accepts photos of the physical document only, not copies, scans, screenshots or edited images. Photos must be JPG or PNG, larger than 10 KB and no larger than 4 MB, clear, complete and free of reflections or watermarks, and your name must match the document exactly.
The steps on the website
- Log in, click your avatar in the upper-right corner, choose Identification, then Verify Now.
- Select your Residence, Nationality and ID type, then Next. Gate warns that details that differ from the document can cause failure or a longer review.
- Verify one of three ways: scan the QR code with your phone, use your computer's camera on the page, or, if the face check will not work, choose the gesture-photo option. Enter your name and document number and press Submit.
- Optionally, submit address verification afterwards with a utility bill or bank statement.

How long it takes, and why it fails
Gate's web guide says the automatic review usually finishes within a few minutes and in some cases takes up to 1 business day; it estimates 5 to 10 minutes for you to complete the steps. The KYC FAQ gives a wider range: between 10 minutes and 12 hours. Results usually arrive by email. Gate lists blurry or incomplete photos, details that do not match the document and a failed face check as common reasons for failure, and says you can resubmit.
If Gate shows “Not the account holder” or “Non-self verification”, it suspects the person verifying does not match the document. Have the document holder do it in good light without a hat, mask or sunglasses, or choose the gesture-photo option.
Address verification
Optional, but Gate says it can raise your account privileges and withdrawal limits, and that it may ask for it anyway in cases such as compliance requirements, limit increases or account security reviews.

Depositing on Gate.io
Gate's deposit guide (page dated 26 April 2025) lists three main routes plus GateCode transfers: P2P (fiat) trading, on-chain deposit and debit or credit card. Since the KYC FAQ requires verification before deposits, do the verification first.
- P2P: Assets, Spot, Deposit, P2P Trading. After a seller accepts your order you pay them and press I Have Paid. Gate says to do this within 20 minutes, otherwise the order cancels automatically and the crypto goes back to the seller.
- On-chain: Assets, Spot, Deposit, Onchain Deposit. Choose the coin and network, copy the address, and make sure the deposit network matches the one you withdraw from; Gate warns that a mistake can cause a failed deposit.
- Card: Assets, Spot, Deposit, Debit/Credit Card. Enter the amount under Spend, choose the coin under Receive, pick a payment method and confirm.

Gate's rules on the same page: beginner tasks must be completed within 15 days of sign-up and are claimed manually; someone who deactivated an account and signs up again (Gate checks this through identity verification) is not eligible; sub-accounts are excluded; and only retail users can take part, with institutional, API and affiliate accounts excluded. The page also describes an Advanced Trading Task with larger rewards for deposits and trading within the same 15 days. Its first stage asks for a net deposit of at least 200 USDT and cumulative trading volume of at least 6,000 USDT, stablecoin trades do not count towards that volume, and rewards are settled after the event ends and a 3-day review. Gate's own headline for the advanced rewards differs between sections of the page, from 10,000 USDT to 15,000 USDT, so we quote the stage requirements rather than a maximum.
